The Cake Bible has some really cool cakes in it, one of which is this Zauber Torte. The top is made from caramelized sugar dropped onto a greased bowl. This slides on top of a cake which I made inside the bowl. The instructions warned me to not put the sparklers directly over the cake, but they didn't mention how much distance I needed between them and the table. Even on a pedestal cake plate, the sparklers left little burn marks on the table. :( Next time I will wait until it is warm enough and do it outside.
